We ran the first TechGames in Asia this month. A chess and boardgames night in Seoul during ICML week cohosted with Pointdexter in a hidden room next to COEX.

We did not expect what happened next. Several hundred people asked for a seat within a few days, against a room that holds 50. It ended up one of the most popular events of the week. Curating that down was genuinely painful, and honestly it was pretty insane to watch.

The thesis held: games filter for the smartest people in the room, and the wedge game changes with the audience. Chess for researchers, poker for founders.

Asia was not a one-off. We're going back.
